We’re going to need everyone’s help on this.

In order to meet our State mandated climate goals of reducing our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, Massachusetts needs to decarbonize 1 million homes and 300-400 million square feet of commercial space by 2030. That’s going to take a lot of work. But it’s going to pay off enormously. If you are working on climate change legislation in your community, please contact us to be added to our listserv with representatives from over 100 towns and cities throughout the State and beyond. Aside from our online resources, we also offer coaching and can connect you with technical experts.

Make impactful change in your community. We can help.

Adopt the MA Opt-in Specialized code.

The Opt-in Specialized Code, adopted by 60 towns and cities representing 33% of the State’s population, builds on energy improvements in the updated Stretch Code, providing consumer protections like pre-wiring for future electrification and PV solar panels to help reduce energy costs. These important changes save consumers money and work to comply with future building code requirements.

Pass impactful local legislation.

We cannot achieve the decarbonization we need by 2030 or 2050 with voluntary individual choices alone. We need to change systems, incentives and regulations to achieve the scale we need. And critically, much of the change we need has to happen at the local and state level, not just at the Federal level. Now more than ever, local action is impactful and important.

Expand the 10 Community Fossil Fuel Free Demonstration Program.

Allow more communities throughout Massachusetts to voluntarily adopt a healthier, all-electric building code for new and major construction.

Start an induction cookplate lending program.

Start a program to lend out portable induction cook plates at your local library to broaden access and help others learn about clean and safe electric cooking appliances. This is a great and relatively low cost way to transition your kitchen off of gas, particularly when you aren’t able to replace your gas stove or range.

Implement a Climate Action Plan for your community.

Help the State meet its target of 50% carbon emissions reduction by 2030 by committing your community to a climate action plan.

Save Mass Save and ACPs (Alternative Compliance Payments)

Fossil Fuel Free construction improves the energy efficiency of buildings and the health of occupants, all at low costs.

MASS SAVE IS AN AFFORDABILITY MULTIPLIER

Slashing funding for our most effective affordability solution for buildings in the name of “affordability” makes no sense. The Massachusetts’ House Legislature’s claims about Mass Save are misinformed and inaccurate.  If their proposed $1 billion cut is enacted, the program will face immediate cuts and completely run out of funds in April 2027.

Mass Save and Alternative Compliance Payment programs - both on the chopping block - lower bills, promote healthier homes, and reduce the need to expand electrical and gas infrastructure.  Mass Save needs strengthening, not weakening.
