Start an Induction Cook Plate Lending Program
Let people test the power of advantages of induction cooking.
Being able to test out an induction cook plate can make a huge difference for incentivizing your neighbors to ditch their gas stoves. For those want to replace their stoves, but aren’t yet able to, this is also a great option to see how using a low cost cook-plate and other electric appliances (hot water kettle, microwave) can reduce gas stove use.
Like induction cook-tops, portable induction plates boil water faster, allow you to precisely control your cooking temperature, and improve the air quality in your home.
Mothers Out Front Brookline worked with ZeroCarbonMA to set up an induction cook-plate loan program in Brookline libraries. Other libraries in Massachusetts have followed suit, so community members can easily check out a cook-top and experience the benefits of induction cooking themselves. We originally learned of this idea through similar programs in the California area, which are working well.
This is a small, yet impactful step in making a difference in our climate for future generations.
Substantial evidence shows that cooking releases many harmful gases when gas is burned. See links to articles here.
